Litho printing

If you require a specific pantone colour for your print run, have a document bigger than SRA3 or if you need a particularly large quantity, then litho is the only way to fly.

Whereas digital printing has the advantage in terms of flexibility, speed and convenience, traditional lithography certainly can’t be beaten when it comes to cost effective large runs. You need 10,000 booklets printed?  Litho would certainly be a better choice. We offer both printing techniques at Typecraft to offer you a complete and flexible printing solution.

What is the difference VS digital?

The first printing press was invented in 1440 and has arguably been one of the most important inventions to mankind changing the way we consume the written word forever.

The basic process involves an image being exposed onto a plate which then has ink applied to it. The ink (which only sticks to the image) then gets transferred onto a set of rollers which in turn gets transferred onto the paper. This is fundamentally different to a digital press which draws a toner onto the paper using an electrostatic charge which is then fused to the paper via a heating process which enables the print to come off the printer dry as opposed to the wet ink litho process which requires a small amount of time for the ink to completely dry.

What are the advantages?

The first advantage is that larger runs are usually more cost effective when printed on a litho press. You also tend to have access to a wider range of stocks as well as a broader range of thicknesses. Pantone specific colours are also available meaning that you can choose a specific blue for example knowing that the print will be colour matched to that exact colour.

How do I know which one to choose?

You don’t need to. Our team of experts will guide you every step of the way, advising you on the processes needed to fulfil your requirements and provide recommendations if necessary. We manage the entire process from proof stage to (if you are local) delivering the finished print run to your door. Print… It’s what we do.
